SAT and ACT test dates: which day is right for you?

The 2017-2018 testing dates are available for the SAT and the ACT. They are listed here, and you can visit the College Board to register for the SAT or the ACT site to register for the ACT. But, how do you know which test date to register for? Don’t just pick the next available test. Compare test dates with your personal calendar. For instance, Seniors should take the tests by February so that scores can be submitted with (or soon after) college applications; it’s difficult to raise a standardized test score while also preparing for final exams and graduation activities. Juniors have more flexibility with test dates since they have more time before they apply to college. For all students, don’t choose an upcoming test date if you won’t have time to adequately prepare for the test. Avoid test dates that are too close to finals, exams, family vacations, or important events for the extracurricular activities you’re involved with. Make sure you will have time to rest the night before the test. Reduce all possible outside stressors the day of the test.

SAT test dates: October 7; November 4; December 2; March 10; June 2.

ACT test dates: October 28; December 9; February 10; April 14; June 9.
