What’s happening at FLVS?
Since April, I’ve seen some changes at FLVS that I’ve never seen before: classes that aren’t open for enrollment. It began with some math classes, like Algebra 2, and now it has spread to most of the math, science, and English classes as well. There’s no announcement regarding this issue. There’s no wait list. There’s no explanation, and no status about when classes will be open again. Why? I’m not sure. I’ve contacted some people in the know and I will share updates when I get them.
This poses a serious problem for students who need to take classes for credit recovery. A typical FLVS class contains 8-12 modules, and completing a module from pre-test to DBA to exam in less than a week is extremely difficult for most students. This means families should anticipate at least 10 weeks to complete a class (working at an extremely rapid pace)– which means that classes you begin today, in early July, won’t be completed before early September. And you can’t begin a class today, so push that date back to late September or October!
If your child needs to take a class for credit recovery, there are other options besides FLVS, but they cost a pretty penny. I’m looking for low-cost or free alternatives that will transfer as a credit to your child’s transcripts. If you need help navigating your credit recovery options, contact me at wtfunction@gmail.com and check this blog for future updates.
